For RC builders aiming to optimise throttle response and driveline efficiency, the Tamiya 42320 Lightweight Joint Casings make a simple, effective change. Machined from aluminum, these casings replace the stock steel pieces used in Double Cardan universal drive shafts to reduce weight while retaining reliable function.
The main gain is reduced rotating mass: a pair weighs about 1.2 grams, yielding roughly 2 grams saved compared to steel. That drop in mass helps the driveline spool up faster and can sharpen acceleration and on-throttle feel.
These casings are designed for touring car setups that use Double Cardan Joint Shafts, including items 42216 and 42300. For extra weight savings, fit them alongside Tamiya lightweight cross joints (Item 42319).
