The Hawker Hurricane may sit in the shadow of the Spitfire in popular memory, but it was a backbone of Britain's air defence in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Designed in the 1930s as a low-wing monoplane, the Hurricane Mk.I featured a rugged airframe and fabric-covered rear fuselage, entering service around late 1937. While the Messerschmitt Bf109 had higher top speed, Hurricane pilots achieved strong results in bomber interception through effective RAF tactics. More than 15,000 Hurricanes were built and the type saw service with several nations during the war.
This 1/48 scale Tamiya model reproduces the Hurricane Mk.I's robust lines with precise moulding. The kit supplies photo-etched parts to lift cockpit realism, and the cowling is removable after assembly so the Merlin engine can be shown. Builders can choose between two spinner and propeller options, and the set includes three crew figures - two pilots and a commander. Six decal schemes are provided, and a 36-page Photographic Reference Manual supports accurate finishing.
