This Tamiya 1/35 Sd.Kfz.165 Hummel kit captures the character of the German self-propelled gun used for mobile artillery support during WWII. Fitted with an L/30 15cm howitzer and an open-top fighting compartment, the Hummel entered service from 1943 and saw action on the Eastern Front before taking part in campaigns in North-West Europe and Italy.
The Hummel, whose name means "bumblebee", was built on the Geschutzwagen III/IV chassis that also underpinned vehicles like the Nashorn. This late production release from Tamiya includes new moulded components for the upper hull and fighting compartment, and the track parts use one-piece straight sections that make achieving realistic track sag easier for diorama work.
Builders will find fine surface detail and an enjoyable assembly challenge in this kit. When completed the model makes a striking static display that highlights period artillery design and is well suited to museum-style bases or battlefield vignettes.
