The Tamiya 1/35 representation of the U.S. Self-Propelled 155mm Gun M40 makes a strong addition to any military modelling bench. Built using mostly new tooling with suspension components taken from the M4A3E8 Sherman "Easy Eight", this kit balances authentic form with accessible assembly for experienced hobbyists. The pairing of the M1 155mm gun and the Sherman chassis shows the evolution of mid century artillery design.
Developed late in World War II to extend artillery reach, the M40 offered long-range fire support with an effective range reported around 23.5 kilometres. Although it missed frontline action in WWII, the chassis and gun saw service in Korea before being replaced by later designs such as the M53. This model reflects the vehicle's configuration and armament for display or diorama use.
This Tamiya release delivers a number of detailed elements that improve realism and presentation:
The supplied photo-etched parts and crew figures enhance display authenticity and make the kit suitable for historical modelling collections and dioramas.
