The Toyota Model AB Phaeton dates from 1936 and represents an important step in Toyota's early mass production history, following the AA. The AB used a 3.4-liter inline-6 powerplant and borrowed styling cues from contemporary American cars. Key original features included a folding cloth roof, a movable front windscreen and front-hinged doors. When World War II began, most AB phaetons were repainted in khaki and converted into staff cars, with just 353 examples built in that period.
For scale hobbyists and collectors, Tamiya's 1/35 rendition of the Toyota AB Phaeton delivers close attention to the original proportions and surface detail. Careful examination of surviving vehicles guided the model's accurate shapes and fittings.
