The Ford GPA, nicknamed the "seep" for its sea-meets-jeep design, served with US Army and Marine units and later saw use by Soviet forces in World War II. Valued for its amphibious function, the GPA shared mechanical parts with the GPW jeep and reached production of around 12,800 examples by 1943, making it a notable wartime vehicle.
Tamiya's 1/35 scale rendition delivers a precise assembly project with newly engineered components that heighten realism. This updated release replaces the earlier U.S. Amphibian Ford GPA Kit (Item 35043) and aims to give modellers a more authentic, buildable representation of this unusual military transport.
The kit opens up several modelling options: the bonnet lifts to show a modelled engine bay, the cab and interior are faithfully reproduced, and photo-etched pieces bring crisp detailing to the grille and small fittings. These elements combine to make a strong display subject on a shelf or in a diorama.
Included with the kit are a driver figure and two infantry passengers, helping create a narrative scene or populate a small vignette. Suitable for experienced hobbyists, the kit rewards careful assembly and painting with a convincing miniature of the Ford GPA.
