The Tamiya 1/35 scale M2A2 Infantry Fighting Vehicle model kit captures a faithful replica of an influential battlefield vehicle that saw use during Operation Desert Storm. The real M2A2 is noted for a sturdy chassis and upgraded electronics, and is associated with deployments including service by the 3rd Armored Infantry Division in the Iraq War.
The M2 family entered production in 1980 and evolved into the M2A2 ODS by 1996 after lessons from the Gulf War. This ODS variant added systems such as a laser range finder, GPS and missile countermeasure devices to improve battlefield situational awareness and target identification.
This kit reproduces many of the M2A2 ODS external and turret fittings. Model builders will find a detailed laser range finder, GPS antenna and box exhaust, plus options for two different 25mm cannon configurations and tracks with durable pads. The set also includes CIP panels, personal equipment parts and half-figure crew members for display.
The kit supplies decals for six different vehicles, covering three vehicles used in Iraq and three NATO markings, letting builders personalise rigs for diorama or shelf display with accurate period markings.
