The Tamiya 1/35 scale representation of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Type 90 Tank with Mine Roller gives hobbyists a faithful study of contemporary armoured engineering. Developed in the late 1980s, the Type 92 Mine Roller was officially brought into service in 1992 as a modular attachment for the Type 90 Tank. Its purpose is to trigger pressure-sensitive and magnetic mines safely ahead of the vehicle, and when removed the Type 90 returns to its normal combat role.
Tamiya's kit recreates the stout profile of the Type 90 and the linked mine roller with high fidelity. Builders will find the pressure-sensitive roller and the magnetic detonator assembly require careful fitting, rewarding attention to detail. The set includes two styles of metal chains to boost realism, and the commander and gunner figures allow for posed diorama scenes.
