The Panzerkampfwagen IV was a principal element of German armored forces in World War II, with production numbers exceeding 8,000 vehicles. The early Ausf.H improved on previous marks and is noted for its balance of protection and firepower.
This Ausf.H continued to use the Maybach HL120TRM petrol engine while adopting the SSG-77 gearbox for better drivability. Increased armor and extra ammunition load added weight and reduced top speed to around 38 km/h, but the vehicle gained survivability as a result.
The vehicle was typically armed with the long-barrel KwK40 L/48 main gun and two 7.92mm MG34 machine guns. Side armor skirts called Schurzen were fitted to improve protection against anti-tank weapons.
Tamiya's 1/35 scale kit reproduces the Panzer IV Ausf.H Early Version with more than 280 tan plastic parts, supplied rubber tracks, and detailed external fittings such as towing cables, tools and side skirts. The kit includes separate suspension arms and optional hatches so builders can pose openings and add realism.
