The Universal Carrier Mk.II is a compact, fully tracked support vehicle that proved its value across many World War II theatres. Its simple, open-topped design and widespread service made it a familiar sight from North Africa to northwest Europe, and it remains a popular subject for scale modellers and military vehicle collectors.
Developed from earlier tankette experiments, the carrier line matured into a versatile platform by around 1940. The Mk.II used a modest Ford V-8 powerplant and carried light armament such as a Bren gun, allowing it to perform reconnaissance, transport and support tasks with agility on varied terrain.
Tamiya's 1/35 rendition faithfully captures the carrier's proportions and surface detail. The boxed kit supplies dark green plastic parts, realistic flexible tracks and five crew figures. A set of personal equipment items like packs and ammo pouches lets builders craft believable field scenes and dioramas.
