The Tamiya 1/48 U.S. Howitzer Motor Carriage M8 kit delivers a faithful miniature of a notable World War II support vehicle. The M8 provided mobile artillery assistance to infantry units across multiple theaters, including operations in Italy, western Europe and the Pacific islands.
Built on the M5 Stuart chassis, the M8 mounted the 75 mm M116 howitzer in an M7 mounting. About 1,800 were produced from September 1942 to early 1944, and the M8 served as a reliable mobile fire support asset in several major campaigns.
This Tamiya release captures interior and exterior detail, including a realistic breech assembly shown inside the turret. Builders benefit from one-piece straight section assembly tracks for easier fitting while retaining fine detail. Metal chassis weights are included to give the finished model a convincing weight and stability.
The kit offers decal sheets for two historical markings: the 106th Cavalry Reconnaissance Group in Germany and the 758th Tank Battalion in Italy. A full-body commander figure is also supplied to improve display authenticity.
