The Tamiya 1/48 scale Matilda Mk.III/IV gives Canadian model builders a compact but detailed chance to explore a storied WWII infantry tank. Nicknamed the "Queen of the Desert", the Matilda earned its reputation during North African operations and this kit captures the tank's heavy, protective silhouette for display or diorama work.
Designed as a heavily armoured infantry tank, the Matilda served with the British Army in the early stages of WWII and proved hard to shift on the battlefield. Its thick armour dominated engagements with Italian forces until opponents deployed higher calibre guns and tactics to counter it. The Matilda also featured in notable actions such as Operation Battleaxe and efforts to relieve Tobruk.
This Tamiya kit reproduces the Matilda's characteristic cast surface texture on the turret and hull at 1/48 scale, adding realism to paint and weathering. Metal chassis weights are included to stabilise the model, while assembly-type tracks recreate the distinct sag between road wheels. A commander torso figure and three marking choices allow period-accurate presentation.
