The Tamiya 1/700 scale model of USS New Jersey (BB-62) is a fine Waterline Series kit that suits model makers who want a faithful naval subject without an oversized footprint. It captures the wartime lineage and later refits that made the ship notable across decades of service.
Commissioned in 1943, USS New Jersey saw action in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The ship received major modernisations in 1982 including the fitting of Tomahawk cruise missiles and Harpoon anti-ship missiles. This kit reflects those later additions, showing the battleship as configured in its 1980s refit.
At 1/700 scale the parts strike a balance between fine detail and ease of handling. The model reproduces the lattice mast and missile launchers of the upgraded fit, and uses polycaps to allow movement of the 40.6cm triple gun turrets. The box also contains an SH-60 Sea Hawk helicopter to enhance deck appearance.
The hull is supplied in a left-right split, which keeps assembly straightforward for most builders. A clear painting reference is included so modellers can match the ship's finishes accurately. Once finished, the model makes a compact but impressive display piece for naval collections.
