The Shimakaze was one of the fastest destroyers of World War II, able to reach about 40.9 knots. Driven by steam turbines rated at 75,000 horsepower and fitted with distinctive quintuple torpedo launchers, she was intended as the lead of a 16 ship class but remained the single prototype. Shimakaze served actively until she was lost in the Battle of Ormoc Bay in November 1944.
This 1/700 scale kit from Tamiya recreates the Shimakaze with careful reference to historical sources. Originally released in 1972 and modernised in 2017, the tooling reflects updated detail and fit for accurate assembly.
