This Tamiya 1/700 IJN Destroyer Shikinami kit gives modellers an opportunity to recreate one of the Imperial Japanese Navy's notable destroyers from World War II. Shikinami took part in numerous operations, including over ten supply runs to Guadalcanal and actions at the Sunda Strait and Eastern Solomons, before being sunk by a US submarine in 1944.
As a Type II "Special Type" destroyer, Shikinami balanced speed with heavy armament for its size. The kit presents the ship in its later war configuration, showing the strengthened anti-aircraft fit common in late Pacific operations. It is a useful reference for naval history displays and dioramas.
Parts are produced with fine moulding to capture funnels, searchlights and masts. Builders can swap parts from the sister ship Ayanami to represent the ship in an earlier wartime setup. The kit includes waterslide decals for authentic markings and a small metal weight to improve display balance and realism.
