The Mikuma, a Mogami class cruiser completed in 1935 and later modified with heavier main guns, played an active role in early Pacific War operations such as the Malay landings and the Battle of Sunda Strait. The ship was fatally damaged at the Battle of Midway, making it a notable subject for historical modelling and naval collections.
This Tamiya kit reproduces the Mikuma's distinctive lines and bridge profile with fine injection moulding. Builders will notice accurate details on gun turrets and torpedo launchers, and the main turrets are engineered to turn smoothly using polycaps for realistic presentation.
The hull comes in two halves for precise alignment, and prominent structures like the rear mast and superstructure are faithfully represented to reward careful assembly. The kit balance of parts and fit makes it well suited to hobbyists aiming for an accurate display model.
