The Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force is noted for practical support vessels, and the Ohsumi class multipurpose transport ships are a good example. The LST-4002 Shimokita is recognised for its cargo capacity and handling. Tamiya delivers a 1/700 representation that captures the ship's functional profile for modellers who enjoy naval subjects.
Launched on November 29, 2000, the Shimokita features one of the longest hulls in the JMSDF fleet. Its flared armored deck improves operational utility and gives the vessel a distinct silhouette. The Tamiya kit reproduces the elevator, the well-dock and the central gate, and it comes with two detailed LCAC hovercraft to enhance diorama and display options.
The kit offers a rich build experience with transparent parts used for the armored flight and vehicle decks so interior elements remain visible. Included are scale representations of CH-47 and SH-60J helicopters, several tanks and small vehicles, large trucks, anti-aircraft elements, self-propelled guns and over 50 miniature vehicles. A compact missile launcher is also part of the set, adding realistic deck fittings for display.
