The Kawasaki Ki-61-Id Hien, often called "Tony", was a notable fighter used by the Imperial Japanese Army in World War II. This variant mounted a liquid-cooled Ha-40 engine, giving the airframe a slim fuselage and a longer nose to house its armament.
Deployed over the Pacific theater, the Ki-61-Id Hien engaged high-altitude threats including B29 raids, with units like the 244th Air Group under Captain Teruhiko Kobayashi operating this type. The Tamiya 25424 model reproduces the look with silver color plated parts and scale camouflage decals for accurate display and diorama use.
Tamiya recommends specific paints such as AS-18 Light Gray for the main surfaces and LP-5 Semi Gloss Black for fine details. Using a 1.0mm drill bit and Panel Line Accent Colors will help bring out recessed panel lines and small fittings.
