The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL is celebrated as one of the most recognisable sports cars of the 1950s. Introduced as a prototype for Mercedes-Benz racing efforts, it was shown at the 1954 International Motor Show in New York and became popular overseas due to its 3.0 litre engine and signature gullwing doors. Production was limited, with roughly 1,400 examples built by 1957, which helped secure its status as a rare classic.
This Tamiya 1/24 model recreates the 300 SL with impressive accuracy. The kit includes operational gullwing doors and an opening bonnet that exposes a detailed engine bay. Metal emblem transfers and newly designed tyre parts add to the realism, while the representation of the tubular space frame reflects the original construction. The kit suits collectors and experienced model builders aiming for a high fidelity finish.
