The Lotus 78 changed Formula One aerodynamics in 1977 with its slim monocoque and side pontoons designed to create downforce. Piloted by Mario Andretti and Gunnar Nilsson, the chassis and aero layout delivered multiple race successes and influenced later racing architecture.
This 1/20 scale model from Tamiya faithfully captures the Lotus 78's low profile and Team Lotus gloss black finish, including markings for Mario Andretti's No.5 car. The kit reproduces the DFV engine bay, gearbox and suspension detail to enhance realism for display.
Photo-etched parts add fine detail such as wingtip plates and seatbelt buckles, while metal transfers simulate mirror surfaces. The model sits on realistic rubber tires and is supplied with a nameplate and clear display case to complete a collector presentation.
