The Tamiya 18103 Jr Cross Spear 01 brings a compact racing silhouette to the Mini 4WD line, with bodywork penned by Takayuki Yamazaki. Built on the VZ chassis, this kit balances light weight with structural strength, making it well suited to both competitive racing and display collections.
Borrowing cues from high-performance road cars, the Cross Spear 01 uses light gray ABS for the main body. The removable canopy is produced in tinted light smoke ABS so you can run it open or closed-top. This modular approach helps with looks and keeps a tidy aerodynamic profile.
The VZ chassis features a truss-style frame linking the centre section to the side cowlings. That layout preserves rigidity while keeping mass low, which is important for high speed stability. The drivetrain uses a fixed 3.5:1 gear ratio that balances top speed and acceleration for typical Mini 4WD tracks.
Racers can tailor the Cross Spear 01 by upgrading the motor to a higher-performance Type 130 or testing different tyre compounds to match track conditions. Low-friction POM 620 plastic bearings are included to reduce drag on the wheels and maintain consistent lap times.
The kit assembles with snap-fit parts that make the build straightforward. The driver figure is removable for custom cockpit work. Note that two AA batteries are needed to power the motor and are not included with the kit.
The Tamiya 18103 Jr Cross Spear 01 delivers a versatile Mini 4WD platform that is easy to build and tune, offering solid performance and customization options for racers and collectors alike.
