The Suzuki GSX1100S Katana made a strong impression when it debuted at the 1980 Cologne Motorcycle Show, turning heads with a drastically different silhouette. The bike's look challenged conventional styling and quickly became iconic among riders and model builders alike.
Designed by Hans A. Muth in West Germany, the Katana emphasised aerodynamic lines and rider ergonomics. Notable features included rearward footpegs and a sculpted fuel tank, both refined through wind tunnel testing to balance comfort and stability.
At its heart the original Katana uses an air-cooled, parallel four-cylinder 1075cc engine with Suzuki TSCC technology. That powerplant produced 111 horsepower and a quoted top speed around 230 km/h, giving the bike a blend of stability and performance that the scale kit aims to capture.
This Tamiya 1/12 scale plastic kit recreates those defining details for display or diorama work. It includes precisely moulded parts to represent the Katana's distinctive lines, making it a rewarding build for hobbyists focused on authenticity.
