No special machinery is required. Standard modelling tools such as tweezers, small files, a hobby knife and fine screwdrivers are usually sufficient for fitting replacement parts.
Anodized finishes can be painted but need careful preparation. Light sanding and an appropriate primer will help paint adhere, but take care not to remove delicate surface detail.
