Precision degaussing cable detail for 1/350 warship builds

The Tamiya 12630 - 1/350 Degaussing Cable Set gives model makers the fine wiring and etched parts needed to replicate degaussing systems used on WWII Japanese warships. Magnetic mines and torpedoes were a real threat in the period, and degaussing wiring was fitted to many vessels to reduce their magnetic signature.

WWII context and modelling value

From 1941 onward the Japanese Navy fitted ships with degaussing circuits to disrupt magnetic fields and lower the risk from magnetic mines. Adding these fittings to a scale model improves historical accuracy and highlights an often overlooked aspect of naval technology.

Pack contents and modelling notes

The set contains photo-etched components plus general-purpose straight cables so you can portray the degaussing arrangements on 1/350 ships. These parts allow careful modellers to reproduce the routing and anchoring points seen on period vessels.

Specifications

  • Scale: 1/350
  • Material: Photo-etched metal
  • Includes: 1 sheet of photo-etched parts, 22 pieces of straight cables (approximately 2m each)
  • Assembly: Requires careful handling and precise placement
Degaussing cables reduced a vessel's magnetic signature so magnetic mines and torpedoes were less likely to detect and strike the ship.
Because the set contains delicate photo-etched parts it is better suited to modellers with some experience in handling etched metal and fine wire.
Use fine tweezers, cyanoacrylate applied sparingly, and a magnifier for accurate placement; pre-bending the etched parts helps fit the cable runs cleanly.
