The Battle of Stalingrad is widely regarded as a key turning point in World War II, featuring brutal urban combat and strategic manoeuvres. Starting in the summer of 1942, Soviet and German forces clashed over control of the Volga and Don approaches as the city itself was reduced to rubble by sustained bombing.
A primary German aim was to seize industrial targets, including the large tractor works that had been adapted to support T-34 production. Despite heavy air and artillery strikes, the Red Army launched a decisive counteroffensive in November 1942 that encircled German formations and led to the capitulation of the Sixth Army in early 1943, opening the path for the Soviet advance westwards.
This Italeri diorama kit lets scale modellers recreate the ruined streets and tactical positions of the siege in 1/72 scale, offering a compact but richly detailed display of urban warfare.
