Italeri 6047 - 1/72 Roman legionnaire scale model

This Italeri 6047 1/72 kit recreates the classic look of a 1st Century B.C. Roman legionary, giving modellers a hands-on chance to build historically inspired infantry figures. The set is aimed at hobbyists who enjoy accurate uniforms and realistic miniature assembly.

Why this subject appeals to modellers

The Roman legionary became an icon of ancient warfare, with armor and kit designed for both protection and manoeuvrability. The lorica segmentata plates sat over a simple tunic, while the large rectangular scutum shield provided defensive coverage for formation tactics. Short gladii suited close quarters fighting, and the pilum served as a formation-breaking thrown weapon.

Assembly and detailing notes

At 1/72 scale the parts allow fine detailing while still being manageable to assemble. The kit rewards careful trimming and gluing with accurate poses and equipment. Model builders will find this a satisfying project that also introduces ancient military equipment and soldier posture.

Display potential and collecting

Painted and finished, these figures make strong display pieces for dioramas or stand-alone collections focused on ancient battles. Their small footprint lets modellers create larger scenes showing unit maneuvers and equipment variety.

Very please, good prices and service.
This kit is best for intermediate modellers familiar with small-scale assembly and painting. Beginners can attempt it too but should expect careful trimming and precise gluing.
Standard polystyrene model cement and hobby acrylics or enamels work well. Fine brushes and a magnifier help with 1/72 detailing.
Sizing follows common 1/72 proportions, so with careful conversion some parts or poses can be blended into larger 1/72 dioramas.
Prime parts first, use thin paint layers, and add washes to bring out armor seams and fabric folds. Reference photos of Roman kit help pick accurate colours.
