Italeri 2813 - 1/48 scale BAE Hawk T. Mk.I plastic model

The BAE Hawk T. Mk.I, first produced by Hawker Siddeley and later under BAE Systems, was developed as an advanced jet trainer for the Royal Air Force in the late 1970s. Designed to replace the Folland Gnat, the Hawk is powered by a Rolls-Royce Adour turbofan and can reach speeds approaching Mach 0.84.

The T1A upgrade added a centreline Aden 30 mm gun pod option and the ability to carry AIM-9L Sidewinder missiles, giving the type light tactical capability alongside its training role. Its adaptability and cost effectiveness made the Hawk popular with many air arms, including its high profile use by the Red Arrows aerobatic team.

Build notes and display potential

This Italeri 2813 1/48 kit captures the Hawk T. Mk.I profile with crisp panel lines and parts suited to careful assembly. Modelers will appreciate the kit for accurate cockpit detail and decal options that let you finish a variety of national markings. Finished builds sit well in a display collection or as a solo showpiece.

Specifications

  • Scale: 1/48
  • Material: Polystyrene
  • Requires assembly and painting
  • Includes decals for various air force markings
The kit has fine parts and realistic cockpit details, so a beginner with basic modelling tools can complete it, but some prior experience with small parts and masking is helpful.
Use polystyrene-safe cement for assembly and acrylic or enamel hobby paints for finishing. Thin coats and primer will help achieve the smooth training jet finish.
Yes, the decal sheet includes multiple schemes and basic stencils to help replicate different Hawk liveries; decal setting solution is recommended for best adhesion.
Careful seam filling, light sanding of panel lines if desired, and using a satin or gloss clear coat will protect the paint and decals. Consider a small diorama base to showcase the jet.
