The Vought F-8E Crusader earned its place in naval aviation as one of the first carrier fighters able to reach supersonic speeds, powered by a Pratt & Whitney turbojet with afterburner. Capable of speeds over Mach 1.8, the type was an important step in 1950s military aviation. It entered service with the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, taking over roles from the F7U Cutlass and serving through the Vietnam conflict.
Often called "The Last of the Gunfighters," the F-8E combined four 20mm cannons with contemporary missile options, giving it both classic firepower and modern flexibility. This Italeri kit captures the Crusader's defining lines and armament, making it a rewarding project for collectors and history minded modelers.
