The Italeri 1450 scale kit presents a carefully modelled version of the Aeritalia G-222, a notable transport in military aviation history. Designed by Giuseppe Gabrielli in the late 1960s to meet the Italian Air Force need for a compact tactical transport, the G-222 is smaller than the Lockheed C-130 Hercules and was built for short takeoff and landing on rough airstrips, using two turboprop engines to reach speeds up to 480 km/h.
This kit evokes the later C-27J Spartan variant, modernised from 2005 onward. The C-27J uses Rolls-Royce AE2100-D2 powerplants to boost speeds past 600 km/h while keeping strong handling. It serves in a wide range of roles, able to move up to 68 troops or in excess of 11 tonnes of cargo, and features advanced avionics suited to all-weather operations.
Hobbyists will find the Italeri 1/72 kit rewarding to assemble, with parts that highlight the transport's key details and historical context. The kit components let builders produce an accurate display piece that fits well in collections focused on tactical airlifters.
