The Italeri 1397S 1/72 F-21A Lion/Kfir C.1 model kit reproduces the lines of this versatile combat jet in a manageable scale. Built originally by Israel Aircraft Industries, the Kfir evolved from the French Dassault Mirage III/5 and was improved with Israeli systems and the General Electric J79 turbojet for greater performance. The type performed both fighter and strike duties, was fitted with two 30 mm cannon, and could carry a variety of air-to-air missiles and bombs.

During the 1980s the type was leased to the United States Navy and Marine Corps under the F-21A Lion designation for use in air combat training.
