The Short Stirling Mk.I stands out as Britain’s first four-engine heavy bomber in World War II, recognised for its high wing and sturdy metal airframe. Serving with RAF Bomber Command from 1940, it was later replaced by the Halifax and Lancaster, yet its capacity to carry over 6,000 kg of bombs and defensive fit of eight 7.7 mm machine guns made it a notable type of the period.
This 1/72 scale model kit from Italeri, model 1335S, uses upgraded molds and includes a photo-etched fret to bring finer detail to the build. The kit comes with a colour instruction sheet and decals for six different versions, giving modellers options for historical markings. It is a satisfying project for collectors and hobbyists who enjoy accurate WWII aircraft builds.
