The Grumman F9F Panther earned its place in aviation history as Grumman's first jet fighter and the US Navy's second carrier-capable jet. Making its first flight in 1947, the airframe used a Rolls-Royce Nene turbojet produced under licence by Pratt & Whitney as the J42. Because the engine drank fuel rapidly, wingtip tanks were added to extend range, a detail included in this 1/72 representation from Hobby Boss.
This static assembly kit contains over 90 parts, including five clear components that help replicate cockpit and canopy details. With overall measurements of 159.8 mm long and a 161 mm wingspan, the finished model matches the Panther's proportions and carries a US Navy camouflage pattern true to the era.
Builders will find the Hobby Boss F9F-2P rewarding to assemble, with many small parts that call for careful trimming and painting. Finished, the model makes a strong display piece for any collection focused on early jet fighters or naval aviation history.
