The German Sd.Kfz.221 Leichter PanzerspƤhwagen served as a light armoured reconnaissance car between 1935 and 1944. Built on the sPkw I Horch 801 chassis, it features an angular armoured hull and a small turret, and is powered by a 67 kW (90 hp) Horch 3.5 petrol engine capable of about 80 km/h on roads, while its off-road performance was limited.
Fielded mainly with reconnaissance battalions in armoured divisions, the Sd.Kfz.221 performed best on developed road networks such as those in Western Europe. Its shortcomings showed up on difficult terrain in the east and in North Africa, which prompted the use of more versatile platforms like the Sdkfz 250 half-track.
This 1/35 scale Hobby Boss kit delivers accurate external and internal detail. The set contains more than 320 plastic parts across 13 sprues and includes two photo-etched parts to lift fine details. The kit benefits from multi-directional slide-molded upper and two-directional slide-molded lower hull components for improved fit and accuracy.
With detailed interior fittings, realistic rubber tyres and photo-etched items, this model makes an attractive display piece for World War II collections and dioramas. It is especially suited to builders who enjoy interior detailing and weathering work.
