The U.S. M3A1 White Scout Car first appeared in 1938 and was intended for armoured and reconnaissance roles. It proved better on paved roads than off-road, so it seldom served as a frontline scout during World War II. Several experimental variants were produced, such as the M3A1E1 with a diesel powerplant, the M3A1E2 featuring an armoured roof, and the M3A1E3 fitted with a 37mm gun on a rotating mount.
About 21,000 vehicles in the M3 family were manufactured, with many sent to the Soviet Union and Free French forces under Lend-Lease. After the war some nations, including Israel, continued to operate them for years. The M3A1 carried a crew of eight and was equipped with a front-mounted .50 caliber M2 machine gun plus two rear-mounted .30 caliber 1917 Brownings on a continuous skate rail for flexible fields of fire.
This Hobby Boss kit lets modellers recreate the M3A1 with fine external detailing and authentic armament mounts. The assembly demands careful fitting and some modelling experience to get crisp seams and proper alignment. With patience and accurate paintwork the completed model makes a strong addition to any World War II military collection.
