The Hobby Boss 1/48 scale representation of the PLAAF JJ-5 recreates the two-seat trainer derived from the MiG-17 lineage. Drawing on elements from the MiG-15UTI and the J-5, the JJ-5 is shown here as a faithful modelling subject that reflects its role in pilot training and aviation history.
Manufactured from 1968 through 1986 with over a thousand airframes completed, the Chengdu JJ-5 served as a front-line trainer for the People's Liberation Army Air Force and was exported to several operators. This 1/48 scale kit measures 241.5 mm long with a 201.5 mm wingspan and includes optional position flaps plus a detailed engine assembly, which suit both display modelers and hobby builders.
The kit gives modelers scope to personalise finishes, including camouflage patterns used by the Bayi Aerobatics Team and the PLAAF 4th Flying Academy. With 125 light grey plastic parts and 8 clear canopy parts, the assembly rewards attention to seam work and paint finishing for a convincing display piece.
