Futaba S5301 Tested for Heavy-Duty Use

The Futaba S5301 High Torque 1/4 Scale Servo is built for hobbyists who need solid control and long life in larger models. It suits big R/C aeroplanes, sailplanes, petrol cars and performance boats, and is engineered to cope with heavier surfaces and prolonged use.

Built for Torque and Long Life

Using a 5-pole motor combined with metal gearing, the Futaba S5301 produces strong torque while resisting wear. Its dual ball bearings keep movement smooth under load, and the dust and water resistant design helps protect the internals during outdoor running.

Fitment and Included Accessories

The servo is supplied with a Futaba J male connector and a large cross-shaped servo horn preinstalled. The package also includes four brass eyelets, four large black rectangular rubber grommets, and four 2 x 11mm mounting screws. Three additional servo horns are provided: one large round, one large X, and one small 6-arm for different link setups.

Specifications

  • Speed: 0.29 sec/60° @ 4.8V, 0.23 sec/60° @ 6V
  • Torque: 233 oz-in @ 4.8V, 292 oz-in @ 6V (16.8 kg-cm @ 4.8V, 21.0 kg-cm @ 6V)
  • Dimensions: Length: 2.3" (59mm), Width: 1.1" (29mm)

A practical upgrade for pilots and drivers wanting dependable high torque and precise control in larger R/C builds.

Yes. The torque rating and metal gears make the Futaba S5301 a viable single-servo replacement for many elevator and aileron setups on 1/4 scale models.
Use a quality NiMH pack or a regulated LiPo supply capable of delivering steady current. Proper voltage and current capacity reduce heat and maintain torque output.
Use the supplied rubber grommets and brass eyelets, and tighten screws snugly without overcompressing the mounts. Adding soft foam under the servo can also cut vibration transfer.
The S5301 has dust and water resistance which helps in damp conditions, but for regular marine exposure use additional sealing and corrosion protection around linkages and connectors.
